Being fairly new to the food blogging market, I had no idea what to expect when I was invited to Downtown Diane’s event at Tin Roof in Power Plant Live. All I knew was there would be menu samplings, cocktails and live music.
As I sat in my Towson University apartment with my editor and plus one, we imagined what was to come. So without further adieu, I’d love to tell you all about my amazing experience at Tin Roof.
Towson University students know all about Power Plant Live. It’s a big college club spot, flooded with big-name clubs and bars. What people don’t realize is there are also amazing restaurants in this area. Last night, I had the pleasure of sampling some of the specials from Tin Roof. On the menu was a mixed-greens salad paired with tomatoes, feta and a creamy balsamic dressing (the perfect way to start a night of eating and drinking). The chef featured three finger-food specials: warmed brisket, mushroom and cheese quesadillas, buttermilk-fried chicken with a sweet and spicy glaze, and my absolute favorite of the night, the crab cake sliders minus the buns.

The food was fantastic. Everything was delicious, bite after bite. After conquering my third plate of food, I knew it was time to take advantage of the bar. The bartender was sweet and excited to mix up drinks. They had a few Tin Roof mixed-drink specials but I had to keep it simple. With a full stomach and a drink in my hand, I was able to take in the entire event. The restaurant was broken down into a few sections, one highlighting the dining area, one having a stage and the last having a huge bar. The restaurant also featured a huge fenced-in patio with tables and all the necessities for a fun night (beer pong tables, cornhole, massive tables/chairs, etc.).
The décor was what really caught my eye. I couldn’t put my finger on the exact vibe they were going for. It at first seemed like a lot of different gimmicky items and random signs plastered throughout the restaurant. But after taking it in for a few minutes, it all started to jive and work together. It had an eclectic feel. The stage and dance floor was illuminated by the overhanging draped set of Christmas lights.
The event was spectacular, nothing like anything I could imagine. The only thing that made the night that much better was the acoustic set put on by Nelly’s Echo. The soulful and crisp sound of Nelson Emokpae, a contestant on the hit show “The Voice,” capped a great night.
Please, everyone check out Tin Roof for amazing drink and food specials. Every Thursday night is college night and they run 2-for-1 drink specials. Also, the general manager told me on Saturdays and Sundays he runs all-you-can-eat wings and drink specials for football games.
