Miss Shirley’s Cafe (513 W. Cold Spring Lane)
The next restaurant on the list of GoodEats is Miss Shirley’s Café. Miss Shirley’s has three locations throughout the greater Baltimore and surrounding areas. There is one off Cold Spring Lane, another in the Inner Harbor off of Pratt Street, and the last in Annapolis on Park Place.
Miss Shirley’s is a breakfast lover’s paradise. Opened daily only until mid afternoon (3p.m. on weekdays and 3:30p.m. on weekends) you have to make it a point to wake up a little earlier to indulge in these brunch specialties.
The restaurant is modernly furnished and beautifully simplistic inside. The food is immaculate. Sinful creations combined with unbelievable plate presentations. Anything you order will warrant an Instagram picture and will undoubtedly put your taste buds into hyper drive.
You are finally seated and are overwhelmed by the extensive menu featuring breakfast specialties, brunch favorites and lunch classics. As you peruse the extensive menu, you have to try one of their cocktails and starters. My favorite starter is the sweet potato fries accompanied with a homemade mango-ketchup and citrus aioli. If you’re in an adventurous mood try the fried green tomatoes served with a lemon her aioli dipping sauce. Yum!
Trust me, you aren’t doing Miss Shirley’s right if you don’t indulge. It’s necessary. It’s completely normal if you sit pondering the menu for a good ten. Don’t feel rushed, this is a big decision, but rest easy knowing whatever you get will be outstanding.
To help with your decision, here are some of my absolute favorites. Any of the pancakes are decadent and perfectly fluffy. Made with a homemade batter, these are some of the best pancakes to ever hit my mouth. The omelets are massive, made with fresh ingredients complimenting one another expertly. The chicken and waffles dish is legendary, in my mind. It’s comprised of crispy boneless pieces of chicken atop beautiful delicate cheddar green onion waffles with unreal honey mustard aioli and jalapeno butter. All I can say is, Wow!
By now, if your mouth isn’t watering and your stomach grumbling, there is something wrong with you.
Putting Miss Shirley’s over the edge are the countless awards. They have been featured countless times in Baltimore Magazine and City Paper. The New York Times and The Baltimore Sun both raved about this Baltimore landmark. Topping off the countless other awards and features, Miss Shirley’s is also Zagat rated.
Hopefully, this has convinced you all to go out and enjoy this restaurant. Miss Shirleys will keep you needing more.
Until next time. I wish you GoodEats!
